Vegetation and land cover

District: Bekwai Municipal

Last updated: June 3, 2025

The Bekwai Municipality is located within the country’s moist semi-deciduous forest zone, hence the vegetation is predominantly forest. Among the tree species are mahogany, odum, wawa, and edinam. Parts of the forest in the Municipality have been designated as forest reserves. A significant percentage of primary forests have been converted to secondary forests as a result of environmentally unsound farming methods such bush clearing on for farms and human activities, especially farming and the harvesting of lumber. In several areas of the Municipality, Chronolaena Ordorata, also known as the Akyeampong shrub, appears to be the primary vegetative cover.
